In the Press - Former Journalist turns Inventor

Former Gippsland Times and Maffra Spectators journalist Christine Kininmonth has invented a new product for expectant mothers.

Christine, now living in Sydney, has created the BellyBelt which turns trousers, skirts, shorts and jeans into maternity wear. It attaches and unattaches quickly using the garment's own button and buttonholes.Christine came up with the idea when she was pregnant with her daughter Caroline, now aged two.

"I just wasn't prepared to buy a whole new wardrobe for the few months I couldn't fit into my new clothes," she said. As a newsreader with Channel 7, Christine was able to wear her won work suits. "I did buy some super comfy leggings, but certainly had more choice because of the BellyBelt," she explained.

BellyBelt is officially endorsed by the Australian Society of Independent Midwives and recommended by the Nursing Mother's Association. Christine now juggles motherhood with her rapidly-expanding business and casual newsreading with Foxtel.

"Being brought up on a farm at Perry Bridge was a great lesson in entrepreneurship. :My parents (Ian and Caroline) showed me how to be resourceful so I'm not afraid to try anything".
