PITTSWORTH mother Gayle has helped her pregnant daughter swap her dry, dusty home for an island paradise.
Gayle bought a belly belt from Target in Toowoomba for her Windorah-based daughter Helen because she lived too far from shops to get one for herself.
Daughter Helen entered a competition on the packet, describing in less than 25 words why she was the best candidate for a $7000 Tahitian “babymoon”, or honeymoon for expecting couples.
Her rhyming entry impressed the judges so now she, partner James and their as-yet-unborn child will travel to Tahiti next year. The call to alert her to the win came as a welcome surprise.
Helen’s determination not to wear loose fitting maternity clothes during her pregnancy was why she wanted the belly belt, which extends the waist line of jeans or trousers.
“I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a moo moo,” Helen said. “And maternity clothes are not practical when you’re doing jobs at home.”
Her baby is due in March next year.

Target store manager Jason Pigott and BellyBelt inventor Christine Kininmonth congratulate Gayle on her prize-winning purchase.
